Events Schedule for PEM/PM: Artopia on March 17

SALEM – The Peabody Essex Museum will celebrate creativity at its monthly after-hours party series this week with PEM/PM: Artopia. The event keeps the entire museum open late on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 6 to 9PM featuring a lineup that includes the Jazz Fest All Stars/Krewe De Groove who will bring their New Orleans funk to the museum’s Atrium.

The night promises to be a sensory experience of creativity through sights, sounds and taste. Sample local rums, beers and ciders, hear live music in the Atrium and see PEM’s newest exhibitions. The headlining band for the evening, Jazz Fest All Stars/Krewe de Groove, brings their transcendent mix of New Orleans-inspired funk and soul to the party. Contribute to a collaborative public art project, watch slam poets perform and view a pop-up exhibition featuring works on loan from people in the community.

 

Join them to take advantage of the ample ways to discover and express creativity at PEM/PM: Artopia. Organized in partnership with Creative Salem and the Salem Arts Festival.

 

When? Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 6PM to 9PM

 

Where? The Peabody Essex Museum, East India Square, Salem, MA

 

Cost? Free for PEM members and Salem residents; $10 for nonmembers; There will be a cash bar with a small plates menu from the Hawthorne Hotel.

Artopia Schedule of Activities

Art Making

Create a pinwheel for Move With Me, a collaborative public art project to be featured during Salem Arts Festival in June. The final installation of multiple pinwheels will embody a collection of cultures from the past to now, moving in confluence when the wind is just right. The activity will run from 6 to 9PM in the Create Space Studio 1.

Community Exhibition

Enjoy this pop-up style exhibition featuring objects loaned by Salem locals in the Atrium of the museum all night long. Want to know their creative story? Submit your own ideas to find out!

Collage Making

Join Salem Arts Association for a storytelling adventure using images produced by Salem artists. Collages created will be collected for the Salem Arts Festival’s Move With Me public art project. The event will be held through out the evening from 6 to 9PM in the Maker Lounge.

Poetry Slam

Hear the work of some of Mass Poetry Festival’s best poets through out the evening in various galleries in the museum.

Taste of Salem

Sample some of Salem’s best brews and liquors, including Far From the Tree Cider, Notch Brewing Co., Rumson’s Rum and Deacon Giles Distillery. The tastings will be held through out the evening from 6 to 9PM in the Atrium.

Student Art Exhibition

Beverly High School students return to showcase their artwork inspired by our exhibitions from 6 to 9PM in the Atrium.

DJ Noel Snow

DJ Noel Snow returns to PEM/PM to tear down the house with his digital mashups from 6 to 7:45PM in the Atrium on the second level.

Greg Coles Dance & Drum

Watch students from Greg Coles Dance & Drum perform a traditional African piece. The second performance is followed by a brief dance and drum tutorial at 6:30 and 7:30PM in the Atrium.

Jazz Fest All Stars & Krewe de Groove

Jazz Fest All Stars/Krewe de Groove take the stage with their New Orleans-style funk to end the evening from 7:45 to 9PM in the Atrium.
