NEWBURYPORT – “When You Put It That Way” will be on display at the Carry Out Cafe beginning Sept. 12, featuring collage and object paintings by local artist Diana ZipetoThe public is invited to meet the artist, see the exhibition, and enjoy appetizers and beverages at a free artist reception to be held on Sun. Sept. 20 from 2PM to 4PM. The exhibition runs through the end of October.

Zipeto believes the artwork reflects on the ideas and feelings that occupy both her internal and external worlds. The brightly colored backgrounds convey the joy and excitement of feeling connected with an object or image as well as connecting with being able to find our inner lives in the things that are all around us

“Objects and images dominate our external lives. Objects have specific functions, images tell specific stories and often it can seem like both have little to do with our lives,” says Zipeto.  “My magazine and object paintings aim to celebrate and amplify moments where connection happens. An object calls to mind a situation or a loved one, pictures from a magazine combine to resonate with a belief or experience.”

“Diana depicts everyday items in a bold and clear way that is appealing,” said Paula Simpson, owner of Carry Out Cafe.  “She also juxtaposes images in multi-media collages, which makes the viewer see them in a different light. It’s similar to cooking – you take simple ingredients and put them together to make a new creation. We are happy to showcase her art.”

Diana Zipeto currently lives in an energizing artist community in Lowell, and studied painting and illustration at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She later studied at the Essex Art Center in Lawrence. She has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions at the Danforth Art Museum, the Newburyport Art Association, and the Whistler House Museum, to name a few. Zipeto is a member of the Western Avenue Studio Artist Association and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Her work is online at www.dianazipeto.com.
