PHOTOS: Highlights of 2015 Revere Beach Sand Sculpting Festival

REVERE – The 2015 Revere Beach International Sand Sculpting Festival was held on America’s first public beach this week with solo and duo competitions debuting as well as the centerpiece sponsor sculpture honoring the “Spirit of Massachusetts”. More than 450 tons of sand was used in both the official competition and the centerpiece which used 100 tons of sand alone.

Competition among sculptors began on Wed. July 22, and they continued to work on their sculptures throughout Thursday, Friday, and Saturday when they concluded their work at 1PM. Winners were announced at an awards ceremony hosted by Billy Costa on Saturday evening on Revere Beach Boulevard.

This year’s solo competitors are: Melineige Beauregard from Montreal, Dan Belcher from Missouri, Jonathan Bouchard from Montreal, Enguerrand David from Belgium, Dan Doubleday from Florida, Marielle Heessels from the Netherlands, Sue McGrew from Washington, Pavel Mylnikov from Moscow, Guy Olivier/Deveau from Quebec, and Benjamin Probanza from Acapulco, Mexico.

Teams participating in the first-ever duo’s competition are: Abe Waterman from Prince Edward Island and Morgan Rudluff from California, Steve Topazio from Rhode Island and Matt Long from New York, Ilya Filmonstev from Russia and  David Ducharme from British Columbia, Susanne Ruseler from the Netherlands and Hanneke Supply, also from the Netherlands, Kevin Crawford from Australia and Leonardo Ugilini from Italy.

When? Fri. July 24 & Sat. July 25 , 2015 from 10AM to 10PM and Sun. July 26, 2015 from 10AM to 8PM

Where? Revere Beach, 350 Revere Beach Blvd, Revere, MA 02151 

How? It is recommended to use the MBTA Blue Line to access the event. Shuttle service to the T will be available at Suffolk Downs where there will be free parking. Parking is also available at Wonderland Garage.

 Cost? Admission is free and open to the public.
