Marblehead Maritime Week & Festival to be held Aug 3 to 12

MARBLEHEAD - The Marblehead Maritime Festival will run from August 3 to 12, 2012 as the town prepares to celebrate the first every Marblehead Maritime Week with organizers excited for an event they are hopeful becomes an annual tradition.
Sponsored by the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce, business leaders and the community hope the festival will bring enrich visitors about the town’s maritime history as well as a look inside their modern community and all it has to offer.
Planned events include a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Marine Corps Aviation, Garden Tours at the Jeremiah Lee Mansion, Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta, maritime exhibits at Abbot Hall, and a visit with The Privateer Lynx. Organizers are also looking to provide live music as well as boats to taxi visitors around the harbor.
While many events will take place during the observance of Maritime Week, the core of the festival’s events will take place August 11 and 12 when visitors admire dozens of classic yachts as they compete in the regatta. They will also be able to explore the exhibits and vendors as well as participate in family activities, harbor tours, and other water activities.
A trolley will be available on Sat. August 11th from 10AM to 6PM. It will also run on Sun. August 12th from 11AM to 5PM. The trolley will leave Marblehead High School and run every half hour, making stops on Atlantic Avenue, Washington Street, Front Street and Pleasant Street.
