Junior Ranger Day at the Saugus Iron Works & Salem Maritime Historic Site

SAUGUS/SALEM – The Junior Ranger Day program is geared to engage kids in history, preservation, and exploration of their local National Parks. At the Saugus Iron Works and Salem Maritime historic sites, younger visitors will be sworn in as Junior Rangers, and receive official badges. Park rangers and volunteers will have a number of fun, free, hands-on activities.

In Salem, dive into the deep and discover amazing animals and other life that call the ocean home at the “Ocean Commotion”. Scientists from the Cat Cove Marine Laboratory of the Department of Biology at Salem State University, bring their traveling touch tank to the Visitor Center. Handle and observe a wide range of tidal pool life from local waters and leave inspired to care for the wildlife in your own backyard! Even design your own gorgeous paper boat that floats.

At the Iron Works, “cook, cast, and catch 17th century style”. Learn how to cook a meal from a 17th century cookbook in a cast-iron pot over a charcoal fire or cast a pewter figurine of a 17th century cook. Even spend some time catching and studying fish, eels or other river creatures at the dock.
