This Wednesday, February 22nd is National Margarita Day!

Dozens claim to be the creator of the first margarita drink, including a local bartender named Willie from Mexico City. In 1934, he concocted a drink for his friend, Marguerite, naming the drink in his honor.

Salvador Negrete also claims to be the inventor of margaritas, presenting the cocktail to his sister-in-law Margarita as a wedding present.

The true identity of the master bartender remains a mystery today. While this debate continues today, NoBo residents will have a debate of their own, deciding where to take in some tequila.

Here is our list of the best spots to grab a margarita across the NoBo region!

Mexico Lindo in Melrose

The Border Cafe in Saugus

La Chaquita in Salisbury

The Fat Cactus in Lynnfield

Cantina La Mexicana of Somerville

Ole Mexican Grill in Cambridge
