The three-member Public Works Commission provides general supervision and oversight of the Public Works Department and makes policy relative to the placement, care and maintenance of City streets, sidewalks, trees, parks and playgrounds. The Commission also provides for the removal of solid waste, sets water and sewer rates and considers applications for abatement of water and sewer bills.
Public Works Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor with City Council confirmation and serve a term of three years. The present vacancy, resulting from a resignation, is to fill an unexpired term which will end on March 1, 2013.
The Commission generally meets once a month, but may schedule additional meetings, as needed. Meetings are generally scheduled in the late afternoon or early evening for the convenience of residents.
