NoBo region youth to participate in Stoneham Theatre’s Young Company performances

STONEHAM –  With a few “twists on old tales”, the Stoneham Theatre’s Young Company presents Twists on Old Tales! Winter Festival with Once Upon A Mattress, Disney’s Beauty And The Beast, and Into The Woods.

Introducing live theatre to young people is one of great importance in the Stoneham Theatre’s mission. Through the creation of inspiring live theatre, the Young Company was created to develop confidence, self-discipline and collaboration that will prepare young actors for future success.

The young company offers diverse year-round programs for students grades 1 through 12 taught in the professional environment of the Stoneham Theatre. Throughout the year, students may participate in workshops, rehearsals, and performances designed to develop important skills like teamwork and self-confidence.

The company features performers of all ages from across the NoBo region, including Andover, Burlington, Gloucester, Lowell, Lynn, Lynnfield, Malden, Melrose, North Andover, North Reading, Peabody, Reading, Somerville, Stoneham, Tewksbury, Wakefield, Wenham, Woburn.

Running from February 1 through 12, tickets are $10 if purchased in advance or $15 after February 1st. Children and students will pay $10 at all times. Once Upon a Mattress

Once Upon A Mattress is a musical featuring students in grades 1-6, retelling the story of “The Princess in the Pea”. Everyone can’t wait for the newest royal wedding, and the aggravating Queen Aggravain has declared no one may marry before her son, Prince Dauntless. Winnifred, an unlikely partner, is a girl from the swamps and may be the perfect match.

Disney’s Beauty And The Beast

In this version of the Disney musical, students in grades 6-9 tell the “Tale as Old as Time”, following the unforgettable story of Belle and the Beast. Featuring all the beloved songs from the animated film, the production is a great chance for the entire family to sing-a-long!

Students in grades 10 through 12 will perform in the Stephen Sondheim musical that weaves together beloved fairy tales — Little Red Ridinghood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella — and his own original story of a childless Baker and his Wife, exploring the darker side of a happy ending, perfect for those looking for their “Once Upon a Time” with a little edge!
