The 71 graduates, 68 men and 3 women, represent the 35 departments statewide. The NoBo region was represented with recruits from Lowell, Lynn, Malden, Marblehead, Nahant, Newburyport, Peabody, and Saugus.
“This rigorous professional training provides our newest firefighters with the basic skills to perform their jobs effectively and safely,” Coan said in a press release.
Graduates must demonstrate proficiency in various firefighting skills, including search and rescue, ladder operations, pump operation, and fire attack. Upon completion of the program, graduates have met national standards and are certified to the level of Firefighter I and II. They are also certified as Hazardous Materials First Responders at the Operational Level by the Massachusetts Fire Training Council.
