Sen. Kerry: $10 million for Merrimack Railroad River Bridge

WASHINGTON, DC – In a press release on his website, Senator John Kerry announced that Massachusetts will receive a $10 million to repair the Merrimack Railroad River Bridge in Haverhill.

The funding, provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Discretionary Grant, will repair three bridges along Amtrak’s Downeaster track that connects coastal New Hampshire and Maine with the Greater Boston area.

“We’ve been working at this a long time.  This is absolutely needed to sustain more high-speed passenger and freight trains, less congestion, easier commutes, and jobs.  I’m sure Secretary LaHood is tired of hearing from me on this one, but he’s always listened and he’s really come through for Massachusetts.  I’m deeply grateful,” said Sen. Kerry.

Earlier this year, Senator Kerry wrote a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood urging the Secretary to fully fund this project.
