REVERE – Business owner and Councilor-at-Large Dan Rizzo was elected Mayor of Revere today, succeeding Mayor Thomas Ambrosino who has served in the post for the last decade. Rizzo went head to head with his counterpart, fellow Councilor-at-Large George Rotondo.
“I’m so excited to have this opportunity to serve the City of Revere as their next Mayor because I truly believe our best days have yet to come,” said Rizzo in an interview with NoBo Magazine this evening.
“I’m excited about taking the reigns to the city, and tomorrow is a new day.”
In 2000, Dan was elected to the Revere City Council and in 2009 was elected City Council President.Rizzo also distinguished himself as as Chairman of the DNC 04 Host Committee which dedicated and marked Revere Beach Reservation as a National Historic Landmark.
Rizzo is married with two children, and has served as president of Rizzo Insurance Group, Inc. for over 20 years, a company he founded along with his brother Paul and his father Dan, Sr.
He holds his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration from Emmanuel College in Boston, and also served in the United States Navy for six years, four of which were spent aboard the Aircraft carrier U.S.S. Independence CV-62.
Mayor-elect Rizzo assumed leadership roles through out the Revere business community during his two decades as a business-owner, serving as President of the Revere Chamber of Commerce from 1995-1997 and as President of the Revere Rotary Club from 1992-1993.
