National Test of the Emergency Broadcast System Tomorrow

UNITED STATES – The first-ever nationwide test of the Emergency Broadcast System is scheduled for 2:00PM EST tomorrow, November 9, 2011.The purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the system as a public alert mechanism.

In a post 9/11 America, its surprising that a top-down review of the entire system has not taken place until now, however, state-level monthly and local-level weekly tests remain standard-practice as they have in the past.

Appropriate improvements to the system will be enacted following a review of the results from tomorrow’s test.

For more information, visit the Federal Communication Commission’s website about the alert.
