Saugus Plans Environmental Park with Settlement Funds
SAUGUS – According to an article in the Saugus Advertiser, the Board of Selectmen is seeking to use money from a recent $7.5 million settlement to bring an environmental research park to east Saugus.
Under the terms of the judgment, which was made public this past spring, Wheelabrator agreed to spend $500,000 to “fund environmentally beneficial projects” in a “geographical nexus” to Saugus, North Andover and/or Millbury, the three plants where whistleblowers alleged violations occurred
Officials have not admitted wrongdoing, but have entered into the agreement in order to “avoid lengthy litigation” according to the Advertiser article. Read more here
