Sales Tax Holiday Weekend Across Commonwealth
MASSACHUSETTS – On August 1, Governor Deval Patrick signed legislation enacting another sales tax holiday in Massachusetts, set for the wekeend of August 13 and 14. The rules governing this holiday are the same as in previous sales tax holidays.
Companies and shoppers across the state are gearing up for the weekend, which comes at the beginning of the back to school shopping season as well. Some major retailers, including furniture stores Cardi’s and Bernie and Phyl’s, are offering sales tax discounts in advance of the Friday holiday as well.
The state has suspended its 6.25 percent sales tax on just about anything sold for less than $2,500. The Department of Revenue has published a Technical Information Release that outlines the official rules governing this holiday.
