Networks Announce Axed Series and a Nostalgic Fall Lineup

The five major networks have axed a number of series from the fall lineup, and the list is sure to grow. The 2011-2012 lineup will have a nostalgic feel, returning a number of former series and stars to the small screen.

ABC has canceled “Brothers & Sisters”, “Detroit 1-8-7”, “V”, “Mr. Sunshine”, “Better With You”, “No Ordinary Family”, and “Off the Map”.

NBC eliminated six series, including the recently reworked “Law & Order: LA”, sci-fi thriller “The Event”, and comedies “The Paul Reiser Show” and “Outsourced”.

CBS has cancelled just three at this point. “Mad Love”, “The Defenders”, and “$#*! My Dad Says” will no longer find itself on the small screen.

Fox has put an end to the production of four series, “The Chicago Code”, “Human Target”, “Lie to Me”, and “Traffic Light”.

The networks also announced series to debut to the fall lineup as well as a number of surprising returns that help give the upcoming season a nostalgic feel. In total, twenty-seven new programs have been formally announced for the 2011-2012 schedule.

While over the past decade reality series have dominated, only two new series will debut including Simon Cowell’s return to the small screen in “The X Factor”. Tim Allen will also make his return to network television in the ABC comedy “Last Man Standing”.

Sarah Michelle Geller of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fame will also be returning to television this fall, starring in a CW Network show called “The Ringer”. As has been widely publicized, Ashton Kutcher will join the cast of “Two and a Half Men” following Charlie Sheen’s very public firing from the successful CBS series.

Several series will return to the small screen, including “Charlie’s Angels” on ABC and the 1990’s crime drama “Prime Suspect”. In perhaps the biggest surprise, the CW will bring back “One Tree Hill” in the spring of 2012 for its ninth and final season.
